Separating your identity from your results

It is vital for a person to find their identity, to know who they are and what they stand for. For young people, being on a team is a great way to begin that process of self discovery. However, having one’s identity totally wrapped up in a team, sport or activity can become a problem if that thing goes away. Likewise, when we find our identity and self worth in the results we post from activities, we run the risk of losing ourselves in losses.

Remember that you are more than a final score, you are more than a someone who is on the team or someone who got cut. You are a unique person with great potential, worth and dignity. Don’t allow wins and losses to determine how you feel about yourself!
